Prof. Olayinka Olusola Omigbodun is Professor of Psychiatry, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and Honorary Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, University College Hospital, Ibadan. She graduated with a MBBS in 1985 and received residency training in Psychiatry at the University College Hospital, Ibadan; Lancaster Moor Hospital, Lancaster, UK; and the Queen’s Park Hospital, Blackburn, UK. She obtained the Diploma in Psychiatry of the University of Manchester, the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria and the West African College of Physicians in Psychiatry in 1991 and received further training in Family Therapy at the Department of Family Studies, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (1993). She was awarded a British Chevening Scholarship to study at the Nuffield Institute for Health, University of Leeds and obtained a Masters’ degree in Public Health, with Distinction, in 1999.

Through the University of Ibadan MacArthur Foundation-funded Staff Development Programme, she pursued further studies in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Greenwood Institute for Child Health, University of Leicester, UK in 2004. In 1999, she started a clinic service tailored to meet the needs of children and adolescents with mental health problems at UCH, Ibadan, which became initially the Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Unit and eventually the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the first of its kind in any tertiary training institution in Nigeria. In 2003, she initiated a mental health outreach to the children in the Ibadan Remand Home (the custodial portion of the juvenile justice system in Oyo State, Nigeria). She had earlier established links with the SOS Children’s Village in Owu Ijebu, Nigeria as well as the Ibadan School for Children with Disabilities. She was a co-founder of the African Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health (AACAMH) and has served as Chair of its Steering Committee since its foundation in 2007. Professor Olayinka Omigbodun is also the immediate Past-President of the International Association for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions (IACAPAP).
