Prof. Andreas Meyer-Lindenberg is currently, and since 2007, has been the Director and CEO of the Central Institute of Mental Health (Zentralinstitut für Seelische Gesundheit) in Mannheim, and Chair for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the, University of Heidelberg. Prior to this he worked as investigator and Chief of the Unit on Systems Neuroscience in Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health’s Genes, Cognition and Psychosis Program and staff scientist and Co-Director of the imaging core facility of the NIMH’s Clinical Brain Disorders Branch, in Bethesda, Maryland. He qualified in 1991 (MD, magna cum laude) at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn, and is board certified in psychiatry, psychotherapy and neurology. He obtained a PhD (Habilitation) in 1999 from the University of Giessen and a M.Sc. in Mathematics (2003) summa cum laude from the Fernuniversität Hagen. Prof. Meyer-Lindenberg’s research interests focus on genetic indicators of mental illness with neuroimaging to help uncover the biological mechanisms of mental disorders, especially schizophrenia, affective disorders, cognitive dysfunction, and neural mechanisms of complex social behaviour. As well as on the development of novel treatments for these severe psychiatric disorders, through an application of multimodal neuroimaging, genetics and enviromics to characterize brain circuits underlying the risk for mental illness and cognitive dysfunction. He received many awards including: the ECNP Neuropsychopharmacology Award, 2012; Hans-Jörg Weitbrecht Award, 2011; Kurt Schneider Scientific Award, 2010; 2009 NARSAD Distinguished Investigator Award, 2009; and A. E. Bennett Research Award, Society of Biological Psychiatry, 2007. |
